Passengers on the Kolkata–North Bengal corridor face diversions on September 8 and 9 as a daytime engineering block near New Farakka takes effect. Eastern Railway has scheduled a five-hour up-line block from 10 am to 3 pm on both days. One train is cancelled and several are rerouted via alternate tracks. Expect longer journeys and altered halts during the window.
The Kolkata–Sairang Express scheduled today stands cancelled. Tuesday diversions include the Sealdah–Sabroom Kanchanjungha Express, Kolkata–Haldibari Superfast, and Howrah–Radhikapur Kulik Express. On Wednesday, the Kulik and the Silchar Kanchanjungha will also run on diverted paths. Check your train’s live status before departure to avoid surprises en route.

Trains will skip their usual New Farakka approach during the 10 am–3 pm block and instead run via Bandel–Katwa–Azimganj–Farakka. The detour can add running time and prompt revised platforming. Build buffers at Howrah, Sealdah, Bandel, Katwa, Azimganj and Malda Town, where operational changes are likeliest during blocks and diversions. The route shift follows recent subsidence near New Farakka.

New Farakka block: refund rules for cancellations and diversions
E‑tickets on cancelled trains receive automatic full refunds; no online form is needed. If your train is diverted and does not touch your boarding station, or you choose not to travel due to diversion, file a Ticket Deposit Receipt within seventy‑two hours for eligible refunds. If your journey ends short of destination, file TDR with the checking staff’s certificate.
