Located in Muktaram Babu Street in Kolkata, the Marble Palace is a magnificent structure that transports you to the life of the wealthy residents of Kolkata in the nineteenth century. Let's take a virtual tour of this treasure of Kolkata.

Being new to the city, you may not find it easy to locate the palace as it is situated in the congested region of Muktaram Babu Street in Kolkata. Though the surroundings of the palace leaves you sceptical about the attraction in store, once you enter the compound of the palace, a whole new world greets you to the royalty and grandeur of Kolkata's past.

Built as a residence for Raja Rajendro Mullick, a wealthy landlord and a merchant in Kolkata, the palace is one of the best preserved structures in India and a must-visit attraction in Kolkata. You may have to get a special permission from the West Bengal Tourism Department to enter the palace premises. Once you get the entry ticket, the gate welcomes you to a large compound with a huge garden which has the stunning structure of the Marble Place situated in the centre. The palace gets its name from the marbled flooring and walls.

The garden has some exotic sculptures of lions, Christopher Columbus, the Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ, etc. and a large pool that is a home to a variety of birds.

The palace interiors has an impressive collection of paintings and other artworks by renown artists across the world, large mirrors, sparkling chandeliers that hang from the ceilings, many statues and ornate Eastern urns are among the visual treat that awaits you. The array of Western sculptures, antique paintings and Victorian furniture take you to a glorious past of Kolkata that could keep you wondering about the lavish lifestyle led by the Bengali merchant.

The compound also comprises a small zoo. Sights of the zoo include hornbills, peacocks, storks and cranes.
