Imphal, a small town tucked away amidst the beauty of nature, is also the capital of Manipur. The town came into the light during the Second World War when the Japanese waged war over this place.

Shree Govindajee Temple
The Shree Govindajee Temple is a Vaishnavite temple in Manipur. It is located close to the Royal Palace and houses idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram, Lord Krishna and Goddess Subhadra. Devotes come here to pray to the gods and seek their blessings. Tourists visiting this place can marvel at the beauty of the temple architecture and also go through the various inscriptions etched on the walls here.

Manipur Zoological Gardens
The Manipur Zoological Gardens was constructed to protect the wildlife of the region. Also known as the Jewel Box of Manipur this place is known to safeguard few endangered species of wildlife. There are 55 species of birds and nearly 420 species of animals housed here. Tigers, Asiatic Lions and Thamim deer are few of the endangered animals kept here. A trip here is very educative as you get to know more about these animals and also a perfect way to spend the day for families with kids.

Imphal Valley
The beautiful Imphal valley is richly laden with hills covered in dense forests and many small streams. The many lakes and marshes here are hub for wildlife that roam these places. Ima Keithel
The Ima Keithel market is the only market of its kind in the world. This market is completely run by women. Be it vegetables or meat, handlooms or handicrafts, all the shops in this market are run by the women of Imphal. Tourists coming here can buy almost anything from the variety available. The market is also entertaining as you get to see the ladies haggling over the prices with one another. It is the perfect place to go shopping in Imphal.

Kangla Palace
The Kangla Palace is the pride of Manipur and is situated on the banks of Imphal river. The palace can be described as a fortress city. Ruled by the Meitei kings the palace now lies in ruins but still holds the glory of its hey days. Tourists coming here can explore the ruins and also take a stroll across the river banks. You can also head here for a picnic with your family.

How to Reach Imphal
By Air: Imphal Airport is located about 8 km from the city and there are direct flights from New Delhi, Kolkata, Guawahati, Aizwal, Bangalore and Silchar.
By Train: There are no railway stations in and around Imphal. Dimapur is the nearest major railway station and located 208 km from the town. It has direct trains to and from New Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata and many other places in the country.
By Road: You can reach Imphal by road from all major towns and cities in North East. It is 479 km from Guwahati connected by NH-39 and NH-150. You can also reach this city via Dimapur which is located at a distance of 208 km. If you are not driving down, you can travel by bus or taxi.
