Madhya Pradesh Tourism – The Tranquil Town of Guna

Guna which lies on the on the banks of River Parvati in the Malwa Plateau is a place you must visit. It is a gateway to the Chambal and Malwa districts. It is one of the highly developed districts in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

There are many tourist places in Guna namely the Bajrangarh Fort, Bishbhuji Temple, Jain Temples and more. Tourists can explore the fort and enjoy the view it provides.

Bajrangarh Fort

Bajrangarh Fort is a major tourist place in Guna and is also famously known as Jharkon. This fort which was built by the Marathas and has a gunnery, Rangmahal and Motimahal within it.

Presently in a dilapidated condition, this fort still holds its grandeur. You can explore this fort and enjoy the view it provides.

Bishbhuji Temple

A major tourist places in Guna is the Bishbhuji temple which is dedicated to Goddess Durga. You will see the Goddess here in her full magnanimity with her 20 hands.

The temple is situated on top of a hill and holds a huge lamp pillar called 'Deepa Sthambam'. You can see the lamp pillar from far off and the image is certainly awe inspiring.

Sri Shantinath Digambar Jain Atishaya Kshetra

The Sri Shantinath Digambar Jain Atishaya Kshetra, built in the year 1236, has a number of idols of the Jain Tirthankars, which are made out of red stones.

There are many carvings in the inner and outer walls of the temple as well. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shantinath, which stands 18 ft high here. There is also a statue of Lord Kunthunath and Lord Arahnath here.

How to Reach Guna

By Air: There is no airport in Guna, and those wishing to travel by air have to take a flight to the nearest airport in Bhopal, located at a distance of 188 km. It is well connected to all major cities in India.

By Train: The Guna railway station is located on the broad gauge railway line. You have to visit the nearest station at Pathankot which is located 1,031 km away in order to travel to the major cities of the country.

By Road: You can avail buses from Bhopal to reach here. It takes approximately four hours drive to reach here. You can also hire cars or jeeps from Bhopal to reach here.
