Wondering where to escape to from the heat and the rain? Looking for a pocket friendly travel option? Given that children have their vacations during that time, a relaxing trip is quite becoming of any family. The nature spread on hills make it a perfect getaways.

There are quite a few hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. Barog, Chamba, Mashobra, Palampur are some of the many hill stations here. All these hill-stations are lesser know and thus would not be crowded with tourists. Also on the bright side is that travelling to these hill-stations are pocket friendly too. So lets go ahead and know more about the lesser known hill-stations in Himachal Pradesh.

Barog

Barog

Barog, at an altitude of 6000 ft above sea level, is a noted tourist spot located in the Solan District of Himachal Pradesh. Most travellers halt at Barog, situated on Kalka-Shimla Highway, 60 km from Chandigarh, while travelling to Shimla. Choor Chandni Peak is counted among one of the prime tourist attractions of the region. Some of the other prominent tourist spots in Barog are Dagshai, the Vishal Shiva Temple, Dolanji Bon Monastery, and Renuka Lake. In addition to this, the Sholoni Devi Temple, Children's Park, and Jawahar Park are also frequented by tourists.

Chamba

Chamba

Chamba is a beautiful hill station located in the Tehri Garhwal District. The place is popular among tourists for its natural surroundings and unpolluted beauty. The unexplored region of Chamba, surrounded by deodar and pine trees, is a dream destination for nature lovers. The hill station is known for its apple and apricot orchards. The popular places of that attract tourists to this beautiful destination are theGabbar Singh Negi Memorial and the Shri Bageshwar Mahadev Mandir.

Joginder Nagar

Joginder Nagar

Joginder Nagar, located at an elevation of 2500 m above sea level, is the only town in Asia that boasts of three hydroelectric power stations.  The town packs good options for sightseeing, picnicking, angling and adventure sports like paragliding and trekking.

Kiarighat is a beautiful place, located at a distance of around 19 km from the district of Solan. The calm and quiteness of this place attracts tourists here. One can leave behind all their worries and be lost in the beauty of nature here. It also attracts nature lovers and photographers here.

Mashobra

Mashobra

Mashobra is a popular tourist destination located in the district of Shimla. As a beautiful town in the hills, this place is well known among visitors for its mesmerising sceneries and cool climate. Travellers planning to visit Mashobra must head towards Reserve Forest Sanctuary, which offers an opportunity to observe rare flora and fauna found in this region. Trekking, camping, and picnicking are some of the activities that visitors can enjoy here.

Palampur

Palampur

Palampur, a hill town situated in the Kangra valley, is renowned for its magnificent landscapes and serene atmosphere. Dense forests of pine and deodar and crystal clear streams add to the charm of the place. The place is ideal for spending a quality vacation as it is unlike any commercial tourist spot. . Palampur is also known as the Tea County of the state which exports the tea under various brands. Small towns, terraced paddy fields, temples, villages, colonial bungalows, and snow enveloped Dhauladhar Mountains make the place a tourist haven.

Haripurdhar

Haripurdhar

Haripurdhar is a small town in Sirmou, Himachal Prades. The town is situated on a high ridge overlooking a deep valley. The town is at an altitude of 2500 metres. This town was early known as 'Dungbhangayani'. Earlier this was the summer capital of the of sirmour. Haripurdhar is also famous for one of the historical Bhangayani Mata Temple.

Rewalsar

Rewalsar

Rewalsar, located at an altitude of 1350 m, is a noted tourist destination and a pilgrimage centre of Mandi. This unique pilgrim centre has three Buddhist monasteries as well as three Hindu temples. It is also considered sacred among the Sikhs as the 10th Sikh Guru, Gobind Singh, is believed to have resided here for a month. The monasteries located here are known as Tso Pema by Buddhists while the temples are dedicated to the Hindu deities Krishna and Shiva and a sage known as Lomas. Rewalsar is famous for the Sisu Fair held in the end of February or early March, and the festival of Baisakhi. These festivals draw large numbers of devotees to the place every year.

Nahan

Nahan

Nahan is a magnificent town surrounded by lush green forests and snow-capped mountain ranges. It is nestled on the Shivalik Hills in Himachal Pradesh. Nahan has exotic tourist destinations like Suketi Fossil Park, Simbalwara Wildlife Sanctuary, and Renuka Wildlife Park. Nahan has many forts, temples, and lakes. Renuka Lake is the largest lake of Himachal Pradesh with a vast boundary of 3214 m. Situated at the centre of Nahan town is Rani Tal, which has a large temple and a water pond. Rani Tal has a royal heritage which is also known as "Queen's lake", and it was a retreat for the royal family that used to rule Nahan. Recently, this destination has been converted into a public picnic spot. Ducks and cranes in the Rani Tal Tank and Rani Tal Garden further add to its charm.

Solan

Solan

Solan, a beautiful district located in the state of Himachal Pradesh is also known as the ‘Mushroom city of India because of the extensive mushroom farming in the region. Nestled at an elevation of 1467 m above sea level, Solan is known for its scenic beauty. The place received its name from the Hindu Goddess Sholoni Devi, who is also the main deity of the region. The entire region is enveloped with dense forests and high mountains. Some of the prominent tourist attractions of Solan include the Yungdrung Tibetan Monastery, the Sholoni Devi Temple, the Gurkha Fort, and the Jatoli Shiv Temple.
