Light rainfall was recorded in several parts of Delhi early on Tuesday morning, bringing relief from the recent heat and humidity. The showers lowered the temperature and made the weather more pleasant for residents across the national capital.
Delhi Rain Alert on Tuesday
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is expected to witness generally cloudy skies throughout the day. The weather department has forecast one or two spells of light to moderate rainfall in some areas from early morning until noon. Another round of light rain is likely in many places during the evening.
The IMD has predicted that the maximum temperature will remain between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.
Earlier in the day, the IMD had issued a yellow alert for Delhi until 8 am, warning of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.
Southwest Monsoon to Affect Several States
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues to affect many parts of the country. The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, and Sikkim. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Heavy rainfall has also been predicted in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Kerala, coastal Karnataka, south Karnataka, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph across parts of northeast, east, central and southern India. Strong winds are also expected over nearby sea areas.
The continuing spell of heavy rain has disrupted normal life in several states. Floods, landslides and waterlogging have affected many areas, especially in the northeast and southern India. Assam remains one of the worst-affected states, while several districts in Kerala have closed schools and colleges as a precaution due to forecasts of more heavy rain.
Advisory for Indian Citizens
The IMD has advised people in affected areas to stay alert for waterlogging, flash floods, landslides and traffic disruptions. Fishermen have also been asked not to venture into parts of the Arabian Sea, the Lakshadweep region, the Comorin area, the Andaman Sea and adjoining parts of the south Bay of Bengal due to rough sea conditions and strong winds reaching 40-55 kmph, with gusts of up to 60-65 kmph.
