Mumbai is preparing for the final day of Ganeshotsav as Anant Chaturdashi will be observed on September 25, 2026. The 10-day Ganeshotsav celebrations began on September 14 with Ganesh Chaturthi. While some household and mandal idols are immersed earlier based on the duration of celebrations, September 25 is expected to see the biggest immersion processions across the city.
Mumbai Ganapati Visarjan 2026: Special Arrangements, & Other Details
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made arrangements at several locations by deploying thousands of officials and workers at immersion points to manage the large number of devotees. More than 383 artificial immersion ponds have been set up for people who prefer not to use natural water bodies. At key locations such as Girgaon Chowpatty, the arrangements include cranes to lift idols, ambulances, motorboats, observation facilities and toilets. Separate points have also been provided for collecting nirmalya, including flowers and other offerings.
Major immersion locations in Mumbai are expected to include Girgaon Chowpatty, Juhu Beach and Dadar Chowpatty. Several artificial ponds and designated immersion centres across the city will also be used for visarjan.
Special Suburban Trains to Operate during Ganesh Festival
To manage the expected increase in passenger traffic, Central Railway has announced 22 special night suburban services during the Ganesh festival period. These trains will operate on the Main Line between CSMT and Kalyan/Thane on the nights of September 23-24, September 24-25 and September 25-26.
Western Railway has also changed the stopping pattern of suburban trains at Charni Road station on September 25 to manage the expected crowd near Girgaon Chowpatty.
Traffic Restrictions in Mumbai on 25 September
Traffic movement is also expected to be affected because of large processions and crowds along immersion routes. The Mumbai Traffic Police has imposed restrictions on heavy vehicles on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) during Anant Chaturdashi. The heavy vehicle restrictions will be in effect from 10 am on September 25 until noon on September 26.
These arrangements by the civic authorities, railways, and traffic police are aimed at managing the large crowds and ensuring smoother movement during Ganpati visarjan in Mumbai.
