Bengaluru-Mangaluru Train Services: South Western Railway has Resumed Normal Passenger Services

South Western Railway (SWR) has resumed normal passenger train services on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru route from Monday after clearing debris caused by heavy rain and landslides. However, the Karwar-KSR Bengaluru Panchaganga Express (Train No. 16596) did not operate on Monday.

Bengaluru-Mangaluru Train Services to Resume

Train services on the route were suspended after heavy rainfall triggered landslides between Shiribagilu and Yadakumari stations on the Subrahmanya Road-Sakleshpur Ghat section on Saturday night. Mud, rocks and other debris fell onto the railway tracks, making train movement unsafe.

According to SWR Mysuru Division Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal, a track fitness certificate was issued at 7.25 pm on Monday, allowing trains to operate safely through the affected stretch.

The following trains resumed normal operations from Monday night:

• Train No. 17378/17377 Mangaluru Central-Vijayapura-Mangaluru Central Express

• Train No. 16595 KSR Bengaluru-Karwar Panchaganga Express

• Train No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode-KSR Bengaluru Express

• Train No. 16585/16586 SMVT Bengaluru-Murdeshwar-SMVT Bengaluru Express

However, the Karwar-KSR Bengaluru Panchaganga Express (Train No. 16596) remained cancelled because its rake was unavailable. The train from Bengaluru had been stranded at Sakleshpur on Saturday due to the landslide and could not reach Karwar in time to operate the return service.

Although train services have resumed, all night trains are running behind schedule by at least two hours because track clearance was completed only in the evening.
During the disruption, the Railways diverted several trains to ensure passengers could continue their journeys. The KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode-KSR Bengaluru Express and the SMVT Bengaluru-Murdeshwar-SMVT Bengaluru Express were operated via Shoranur and Palakkad, while the Vijayapura-Mangaluru Central-Vijayapura Express was diverted through Londa and Madgaon on Sunday night.

The Railways had also cancelled the Panchaganga Express and daytime train services on the Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction and Karwar-Yeshwantpur routes on Sunday and Monday due to landslides.

Railway teams worked continuously during the day and night to remove debris, inspect the tracks and restore services. Authorities have advised passengers to check the latest train timings before travelling, as some services may continue to experience delays.
