The Picturesque Lake Pichola in Udaipur

Lake Pichola is one of the prominent attractions in the city of Udaipur. It is an artificial lake which was created in 1362 AD and gets its name from a surrounding village called Pichola.

Udaipur is also known for its palaces and lakes in Rajasthan. There are a number of tourist places in Udaipur and Pichola lake is the centre of attraction.

The construction of Jag Mandir palace was started during the reign of Maharana Karan Singh and it was completed by time of Maharana Jagat Singh I (1628 - 1652).

Lake Palace is situated on an island of Pichola Lake called Jag Island. This marble architecture was built by Mahrana Jai Singh II in 1746. Today, it serves as a heritage hotel and one of the major tourist attractions in Udaipur.

Boatingin Pichola Lake is most enjoyable as it covers all the monuments built on several islands of the lake. Jag Mandir, Lake Palace, Arsi Vilas Island, Sitamata Sanctaury and Mohan Mandir are the remaining heritage sites in the lake.

The City Palace of Udaipur and the Monsoon Palace on top of Aravalli Hills have been the locations for the James Bond film Octopussy in 1983.

Bird watching in Arsi Vilas and boating around this picturesque lake are the must do things to enjoy your trip in Udaipur!
