This fact attests the deep spiritual significance of Deoghar that has been there since thousands of years. The place is a revered place in the Hindu religion and apart from spirituality, the adventure and thrill of Deoghar attracts many wanderers round the year, wishing to explore a perfect weekend getaway.

Deoghar means abode of gods, and this place has preserved one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Shiva. Deoghar is also a Shaktipeeth, which is a sacred place for Hindus. Baidyanath Dham located in Deoghar is one the most secretly preserved places in India. This place has Buddhist ruins nearby that are still under excavation. The road route to Deoghar is excellent with numerous sightseeing potential for a weekend drive with family, friends or simply alone. There are two road routes that can be accessed.

Route 1: Kolkata - Bardhaman - Asansol - Madhupur - Deoghar via the NH19

Route 2: Kolkata - Murshidabad - Dumka - Deoghar via the NH12

Route 1 passes through some of the major industrial hubs of the state and therefore, the amenities provided along the way are better. The best part of the first route is that it passes through some of the scenic landscapes of rural Bengal before entering the industrial belt of Jharkhand.

The heritage of Bengal and an ancient city that has preserved its deep cultural and architectural history, Bardhaman lies at a distance of 102 km from Kolkata. Bardhaman has acquired a significant place in history. The architectural style of Bengal that was unique to this place is well reflected in the terracotta architecture of its 108 Shiva temples.

The shrine of Sarvamangala and the Golapbag, garden of roses, have acquired accolades for their conservation efforts. The Ramana Bagan is a wildlife sanctuary that offers a silent journey through the long-standing trees soaking in nature. Wildlife enthusiasts will definitely have a great time strolling around the sanctuary watching migratory birds and crocodiles.

92 km from Bardhaman lies the commercial city of Asansol. The city is famous for its industrial importance. Asansol is a perfect place to rest and for vehicle refuelling. The Nehru Park offers a walk in the tranquil green atmosphere with boating and an open house café.

Near Asansol, the Maithon Dam is located, which is a huge reservoir built on the Barakar river. The dam gives a perfect sunset view. Hills located near the dam provide a picturesque image while you're driving around. Asansol also has numerous cafés and eateries located in close proximity to the highway.

116 km from Asansol lies Deoghar. The road via Jamtara and Sarath is well built for driving. Tourists flock via this road to enjoy the sights along the highway. Deoghar has a great potential and the recent developments in the nearby locations make this a great journey.

The entry to Deoghar city starts from the Tower Chowk, which is a busy place and most inhabitants live around. At and around Tower Chowk, hotels and guest houses are readily available for lodging.

The Jyotirlinga temple of Baidyanath is one of the most sacred sites for Hindus. The place is flocked by devotees round the year. The main sanctum sanctorum contains the sacred shrine of Shiva while the numerous other shrines located nearby are surrounded in a circular fashion dedicated to other deities.

It is said that Ravana once worshiped the Jyotirlinga for supreme power. The temple was later on displayed on canvas by famous artist William Hodges, which attests the popularity of the place. The architecture is mainly North Indian with high-rising shikaras, which are gleaming white in colour.

The Naulakha Mandir is known for its architecture resembling that of Belur Math. The holy shrine is dedicated to Lord Krishna and Radha and huge idols reaching up to 146 feet are in place inside. The temple has a peaceful environment and is well-maintained.

Nandan Pahar is a hill entertainment park with boating and sightseeing facilities. The place also houses a Nandi Temple on its peak, which is a silent zone and is known for a magnificent view of the sunset. The place is one of the major hangout places of Jharkhand and is well known for its local cuisine.

Nestled in silent and scare vegetation, the Tapovan Caves are places people visit to attain penance. It is said that Valmiki came here for penance. Isolated rocky hillocks cover the entire area with a few caves. The place has a rough terrain and the Taponath Mahadev Temple is located in one of the caves. One of the caves also has a Shivalingam.
