A Magical Journey to Kibber Village

Atleast for Indians it is a tad bit difficult to imagine a sparcely populated region. Especially for the city folks it is people and buildings everywhere. Let us stop ranting about overcrowded places and concentrate on the mystic empty landscapes of India! Just 18km away from the bustling Kaza, is the world's highest continously inhabited village of Kibber in Spiti!

Kibber Village is unique in many ways, it is not just the highest inhabited region but also the highest motorable village in world.

People at Kibber Village lead a simple yet enthusiastic life. It is a bliss to see the community life at such a serene destination. You will be charmed by the green fields as agriculture is the main occupation here. So, the villagers either work in these fields or go to Kaza for work.

However, it is interesting to see the white coloured houses perched on top of the mountain. There is also a monastery which stands on the highest point in the village. Though Kibber Monastery is not a big one, it is the location that makes it alluring.

Kibber Village also has a few guesthouses and lodges if you want to stay. However, Kye Monastery (which comes on the way) and Kibber Village can be covered on a one day trip from Kaza.

How to Reach Kibber Village

There is only one HRTC bus from Kaza to Kibber Village, it takes about one hour journey by bus. However, it is better to arrange a private cab or taxi from Kaza. Kye Monastery cannot be covered if you opt for this HRTC bus. Otherwise, Kye Monastery can be covered on the way to the village.

Kye Monastery

Kye Monastery or Key Monastery is the biggest monastery in Spiti Valley. Kye Monastery is known for ancient murals and paintings. So, don't miss out on visiting one of the famous monasteries in Himachal Pradesh.

On your visit to Kibber Village, try to explore other villages like Tashigang and Gete. Overall, this journey will be a memorable experience.

Other Attractions:

Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary, Spiti River, Kanamo Peak, Parang La (ancient trade route) are the other attractions near Kibber Village.

Best Time to Visit Kibber Village

Summer months are the best time to visit Spiti and Kibber. In other seasons, the climate will be very cold. May - July is the best time to visit Kibber Village.
