Many of these royal palaces have now been converted into luxury hotels and museums. They are made accessible to locals and tourists alike.

Bangalore Palace

Bangalore Palace

Located in the heart of the city, the Bangalore Palace is said to have been inspired from the Windsor Castle in London. Built by the Wadeyar Dynasty in the year 1887, the palace attracts tourists for its beauty.

Bolgatty Palace

Bolgatty Palace

The Bolgatty Palace is the only such palace that was not built by an Indian ruler. It was constructed by the Dutch in the year 1974 and is said to have housed a rich landlord. Today, this palace has a garden, swimming pool and Ayurveda centres surrounding it. It is a perfect place to head to with your loved one to get yourselves pampered.

The Chowmahalla Palace was the pride of the Nizams of Hyderabad, and they used this palace for various functions. Tourists coming here can tour the structure and be awed by the elegance it exudes.

Cooch Behar Palace

Cooch Behar Palace

The Cooch Behar Palace is inspired from the stunning Buckingham Palace in London and is one of the major landmarks of West Bengal. The palace was used by the British officials as their headquarters. Today, it has been converted into a museum where you can see some of the relics of the British era and also know more about the history of this place.

Jaganmohan Palace

Jaganmohan Palace

One of the oldest palaces ever built, the Jaganmohan Palace is an architectural wonder. Legend has it that when the palace was being constructed it was set on fire by the neighbouring king who was jealous of its design. The palace was again rebuilt from scratch in the year 1861 and stands strong to this day, showcasing its grandeur.

Jai Vilas Mahal

Jai Vilas Mahal

Constructed by Jayajirao Scindia in the 19th century, the Jai Vilas Mahal boasts of a mix of Italian, Corinthian and Tuscan design. A part of the palace is still inhabited by the heirs of the royal family while the remaining has been converted into a museum that showcases the splendour of the bygone days.

Kowdiar Palace

Kowdiar Palace

Built by Sree Moolam Thirunal in 1915, the Kowdiar Palace showcases the rich history of Trivandrum.The palace is said to have 150 royal rooms with each room having a unique design. Tourists coming to this palace can marvel at its intricate architecture.

Built by Raja Rajendra Mullick, the Marble Palace in Kolkata is a structure that showcased Bengali architecture. The palace is built from white marbles and has a beautiful garden up front. Padmanabhapuram Palace

Padmanabhapuram Palace

The Padmanabhapuram Palace was built in 1601 by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal, who was the king of Travancore. It is located on the foot of the Veli Hills and also in order to ensure that no enemies attack it the king has a fortress built around it. Tourists travelling to Tamil Nadu certainly must visit this majestic palace and explore it.

The Rambagh Palace was once the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur and is known for its scenic beauty. Today this palace has been converted into a heritage hotel and tourists coming here can enjoy the lavish grandeur that only kings knew in the past!

Ujjayanta Palace

The Ujjayanta Palace at Agartala was constructed by Maharaja Radhakishore Manikya and is said to be one of the grandest palaces to be ever built in these regions. It is said that the great poet Rabindranath Tagore was left awe-struck by its beauty that he named it Ujjayanta. Today this palace serves as a museum and tourists visiting it can learn more about the culture, traditions and history of this place.
