Chaul a former Portuguese city in Maharashtra, India is now just a remanent of its previous glamour. Situated in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, one can see the ruins of its previous splendour all throughout the city. The Chaul Kadu Lighthouse is situated close to Korlai Port and takes approximately an hour to hour and half to reach here by a machine boat. This lighthouse served as a landmark for ships that wanted to enter Revdanda fort. Tourists coming here can also enjoy the view of the reef that are here. It is a perfect place to leave the world behind and enjoy the solitude in the arms of nature.
Datta Mandir

Datta Mandir is located in Revdanda and was built in dedication to Lord Dattatreya who is worshipped mostly by the Maharashtrian community. The birthday of the God is celebrated over a period of five days wherin the entire region comes alive. The appealing factor about this temple is that it is situated on a peak and one reaches there by climbing 1500 stairs.
Korlai Fort

The Korlai Fort, famously known as Morro or Castle Curlew, was constructed by the Portuguese to guard the route to Revdanda Creek. During its heyday this fort was famed as it caould hold 7000 horses and an equal number of men. Today though it is a tourist spot where one can visit and be amazed by it's history.
Revdanda
Revdanda is located 4km away from Chaul and is lined with betelnut and coconut trees and is locally referred to as Naralachi Baag. An aromatic flower called Bakuli is also found here. Tourists come here to unwind at the Revdanda Beach, which is usually isolated and is covered in black sand.
How to Reach
The Chattrapati Shivaji Airport in Mumbai is the nearest international airport to Chaul. The Mumbai Airport is very well connected to all possible states and cities in India by regular, daily flights. The station of Pen is the closest railway station to Chaul, and is about 46 km away. Pen is well linked to other cities and towns inside and outside Maharashtra by the Konkan Line. Chaul is about 108 km away from Mumbai, near Alibag. It lies on the Mumbai-Goa National Highway and can be easily reached.
