Kerala Rain Alert on Tuesday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that heavy rainfall will continue across Kerala. An orange alert has been issued for 12 districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rain, while Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam remain under a yellow alert for moderate to heavy rainfall.

Kerala's Educational Institutions to be Closed Today

District collectors of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Palakkad, Kasaragod, and Kozhikode have announced the closure of all educational institutions due to bad weather. The holiday covers anganwadis, schools, colleges, professional institutions, and tuition centres. However, public and university exams already scheduled will be conducted as planned.

Kerala Public Exams Got Cancelled

The Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) has cancelled all online and OMR examinations scheduled for August 4, 5, 6, and 10 due to heavy rain and unsafe weather conditions. The commission said that new examination dates will be announced later.

Similarly, Mahatma Gandhi University has postponed all theory and practical examinations scheduled between August 4 and 7. The university will announce the revised exam schedule in the coming days.

In Pathanamthitta, the continuous rain has also disrupted cultural events. The famous Aranmula Vallasadya, which was planned for August 4 and 5, has been cancelled. District Collector A. Nizamuddin said that the KSRTC Budget Tourism packages linked to the event have also been cancelled. People who had already booked the tour will be given an opportunity to attend on a later date.

In Kannur, a holiday has been declared for educational institutions in the Taliparamba, Payyannur, and Iritty taluks due to the worsening weather.

In Idukki and Wayanad, schools that are currently being used as relief camps will remain closed until the camps are no longer needed. Authorities have advised these schools to conduct online classes instead.
