There are several roads in India that are worth a drive. Here are some of the best roads and routes of India for road trips.

Are you a person who loves the road? Or someone who loves to enjoy the breeze of the open lands not bothered about anything? Do you think your soul is of a wanderlust? A soul who looks for heaven in sand swept routes, snow covered roads and highways amidst forests.

It's that time of the week when everyone is waiting to say goodbye to the boring office desks. The only thought that comes to you when it is a weekend is, to hit the road and take the paths which haven't been taken.

A dream to rediscover you in the adventurous terrains with nothing to worry about; the lone soul in the entire terrain with only the wind to give you company, can it get any more appealing?

There are many roads and routes in India to satisfy your wanderlust soul. We bring you a few such roads and routes - some of them are through snow covered peaks, some through dense forests and some for the adventure junkie in you.

1. The Pamban Bridge

With breathtaking views of vast expanses of water on one side, this beautiful stretch connecting Rameshwaram Island to the mainland is a marvel.

Spanning about 13.5 km which can be covered easily in 20 minutes or so, it holds the second position in the largest bridges of India. The amazing view, with a gush of moist air, is a unique experience that must be undertaken.

One of the most beautiful and scenic roads in the country which has been a setting for many Bollywood songs. The 474 km stretch has an excellent driving path, which takes you through high peaks, marvellous valleys, fabulous scenery and mind blowing terrains.

The journey normally taken as a two-day drive gives you a thrilling adventure taking you through ancient trade routes, and high altitudes. The road is open only from June to September, so mark your calendars and set off for this beautiful ride.

At 13,054 ft, it serves as the gateway to Lahaul and Spiti valleys. The pass gives beautiful sights of glaciers, peaks, Lahaul Valley and Chandra river.

Located on the watershed between the basins of Chenab and Beas rivers, The pass is naturally divided between the humid Kullu Valley and the arid, high altitude Lahaul and Spiti Valleys.

This stunning ghat section with deadly curves makes it one of most dangerous ghat sections in Maharashtra. The highway is on the banks of river Savitri, which adds on to the beauty of the Sahyadri range of mountains.

This highway passes through the dense forests of Bandipur and Mudumalai range. Passing through the Bandipur National Park, there are high chances of catching the glimpses of wild animals in their natural habitat.

The word 'Jelep La' is of Tibetan origin and translates to the ‘lovely level pass'. It truly keeps up to its name, which comes across between Sikkim and Tibet.

The road runs through some of the most scenic places in the country, such as Kaziranga, Cherapunji and Imphal. One can enjoy the sights of Buddhist flags, the snow clad mountains, camps set up by the Indian Army and yaks.

This 480 km stretch takes about 9 hours to cover and one can witness a very vast spectrum of different colours of its surroundings.

Coonoor is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris, surrounded by tea plantations and cold weather adds on to the experience of driving through 32 hairpin curves.

The route via Masinagudi is truly a beauty, with narrow stretches of roads negotiating amidst villages and the Mudumalai Tiger reserve simply adds on the memories of this journey.

One of the best coastal drives in India. One can experience the shift in the culture, food, language as you drive through the highway which is popularly known as Konkan Coast.

With the Western Ghats on one side and the sea on the other, this sure is an attractive stretch to drive.

There are three routes which can be taken to reach Goa from Bangalore.

1. Bangalore - Shimoga - Honavar on NH 206, and the total distance would be 640 km.
2. Bangalore - Dharwad - Ponda on NH 4 and the total distance is 592 km.
3. Bangalore - Hubli on NH 4 and the total distance is 706 km.

Route 1 and 3 are the most travelled routes since both the routes offer a very serene and scenic environment to drive. Driving amidst the Western Ghats and across various waterfalls and wildlife sanctuaries, these routes for sure would cast a long lasting memory to be cherished.

You will be on the NH 4 from Bangalore to Chitradurga, from here a bypass leads you to Hampi via Hospet. The roads are dry, arid and not something to cheer about.

But the destination is worth the drive, the once golden era of richness, pride, culture and trade gives you a very surreal experience.
