Adventure Tourism in India Calendar 2016

Adventure tourism has become very popular in India. Many destinations are known for adventure sports in India. Every year many competitions also take place and participants from different countries take part in these events. Here is the adventure travel calendar 2016. If you are an adventure freak then you should have a look at this list.

Some of India's top adventure sports destinations also organise skiing championships, marathons and boat races which are most thrilling to watch.

Hence, take a look at these to enjoy your adventure tourism in India. There is also a string of sports which are apt to try during these months.

January – Snowboarding

Snowboarding is slowly gaining popularity in India. The slopes of the Himalayan regions of North India provide a good space for snowboarding.

A kind of skateboard is attached to the feet and the sole of the board helps sliding in the snow. Snowboarding is nothing but surfing on the snow.

Places like Kufri in Himachal Pradesh, Rohtang, Gulmarg in Jammu & Kashmir , etc. are known for winter sports like skiing and snowboarding in India.

Snowboarding should be tried during January to March in these destinations, as it is the snowfall time here.

Gulmarg Ski Resort is hosting this year's Senior Skiing Championship. The Apharwat Peak in Gulmarg offers a good ground for winter sports and many experienced skiers come here to enjoy skiing.

National Junior Skiing Championship: February 10th
Ski Resort in Auli is hosting the National Junior Skiing Championship India 2016. In the recent years, Auli has become popular as one of the top winter sports destinations in India.

February – Surfing

India Surf Festival 2016: 7th - 9th February
Surfing is one of the most thrilling adventure sports. Sliding on the ways on a long board is something many love to try.

This year's Surfing Festival is happening at Orissa's Puri-Konark Matine Drive Beach. India's Surfing Festival is organised in a grand way and many competitors from different countries are said to part of this event.

The event will also have other programs like music shows, film screenings, art exhibitions, etc. So, let us head to Orissa's coastal line for adventure tourism.

March – Hola Mohalla

March – Hola Mohalla

Hola Mohalla Festival: 25th - 27th March
Hola Mohalla is an annual festival celebrated by Sikh community. It was started by Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, which is celebrated for 3 days in Punjab.

In the festival, people showcase various martial arts, mock battles, archery and so on. Many such events take place and audience feel the thrill of adventure sports.

April- White Water Rafting

Rishikesh is known as one of the famous adventure hubs in India. In recent times, it gets many tourists who love try out some thrilling adventure sports.

White water rafting in Ganges is one of the most adventure activities in Rishikesh. One can either go for an easy level rafting or a difficult level rafting here.

Usually, during the months of February - April is one of the best times to do white water rafting in Rishikesh.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are one of the famous tourist destinations in India. People also love the water sports they can try in these islands.

Scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, etc. are some of the most loved activities. The beautiful beaches in Andaman offers a lot of scope for scuba diving.

In the months of March to Mid-May, it is ideal for scuba diving as the climatic conditions are stable. Monsoon sets in after Mid-May and water sports are stopped during the rainy season.

Champakulam Boat Race is the oldest boat race in Kerala. It is organised on the river Pampa in Alappuzha district.

Drupka Tseshi is a Buddhist Festival celebrated in Sikkim. The prominent attraction of this 4 day festival is the Yak race.

This year it is hosted in Muguthang of Sikkim. Yak racing is one of the unique adventure sports which is a big event during the festival.

September – Ladakh Marathon

Ladakh hosts the World's Highest Marathon on September 11th. It is one of the unique marathons which covers the beautiful landscapes of Leh.

We can see people speeding on the highest altitudes and it won't be less thrilling. Anyway, who wants to try something crazy, then they should try Ladakh Marathon.
