Exciting developments are in progress at the world's highest steel arch rail bridge over the Chenab River in Reasi district, India. Authorities are undertaking strategies to transform this engineering marvel into a prominent tourist attraction, aiming to boost visitor footfall at the site, shared officials on Sunday.

The prestigious 1.3-km rail bridge, standing majestically 359 metres above the river bed (taller than Paris's classic Eiffel Tower by 35 metres), represents a significant link in the 111-km Katra to Banihal stretch. This stretch is incorporated within the ongoing Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project.
Appreciation and Intentions for Transformation
On a recent Saturday, Chief Secretary A K Mehta, alongside Deputy Commissioner, Reasi Babila Rakwal and other officers, inspected the rail bridge's site, situated near Jyotipuram, 42km from Reasi town.

Congratulating the engineering team on their consistent progress with the challenging project, Mehta suggested immediate steps to transform this "architectural marvel" into a tourist destination. Mehta said, "The location of the bridge is also impressive in terms of its aesthetic appeal as it lies in the lap of nature". With few enhancements, this spot has great potential to become a massive tourist attraction.
Upcoming Plans and Strategies
Ensuring the site's upkeep and safety is prioritized, with improvements planned for the Reasi to bridge site road, as well as crash barrier installations. Mehta added that the Reasi district, home to the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, enjoys one of the highest tourist footfalls in Jammu and Kashmir, crossing nearly a crore every year.

Known sites such as Shiv Khori, Salal Dam, and Bhimgarh Fort also provide significant potential for further development, attracting more visitors nationally. The district's transformation into a tourism hub isn't just about attracting tourists; it could also greatly boost employment opportunities for locals and residents from other union territories.
The development of the steel arch rail bridge into a tourist site signifies a promising transformation for the Reasi district. Amidst the mighty Himalayas, this challenging 119km railway project, which includes 38 tunnels and 931 bridges, emerges as a testament to brilliant engineering. As its completion nears, it offers an exciting chapter for tourism in the region, aptly blending accessibility, natural beauty, and an awe-inspiring architectural marvel - set to boost tourism and employment opportunities all at once.
