Western Railway is adding four new 12-car local trains to the Mumbai suburban network starting February 1, 2026. These trains are being introduced to reduce crowding on trains and make daily travel easier for commuters.

Four Additional Services of Western Railway
With these four additional services, the total number of local trains running on the Western line will increase from 1,406 to 1,410. This expansion has become possible because the construction work on the sixth railway line between Kandivali and Borivali has now been completed. Officials say that this extra track helps run more trains smoothly and improves movement on the busy route.
UP & DOWN Direction Trains
Out of the four new services, two trains will run in the "UP" direction (towards the city center) and two in the "DOWN" direction (towards the suburbs). The UP direction trains will start from Bhayandar, with one going to Bandra and another to Churchgate at designated times in the day. The DOWN direction trains will begin from Bandra and head back to Bhayandar at early morning and afternoon times.
How Will this Addition Bring a Change?
Western Railway has also said that adding these trains may lead to slight changes in the schedules of some existing train services. Passengers are asked to check the new timetables to avoid confusion. The goal of these changes is to ease congestion, improve connectivity, and make travel smoother for thousands of people who use these trains every day.
Moreover, this step is part of ongoing efforts to make Mumbai's suburban train system more efficient and comfortable for passengers.
