Weather Update: Light Rain To Bring Relief In Delhi-NCR

The India Meteorological Department has issued a rainfall alert for North, North-East, North-West, West, and Central regions, forecasting light to moderate rain and winds. Residents are advised to stay prepared.

Residents of North, North-East, North-West, West, and Central regions should be prepared for rainfall within the next two hours, as advised by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on 20, 2024. The forecast also indicates the likelihood of light to moderate rain and winds sweeping across Delhi-NCR and nearby areas on Thursday. It is advisable for individuals in these regions to take necessary precautions and stay updated on further weather updates to ensure their safety and well-being during the expected rainy conditions.

On Thursday morning, parts of Delhi and Noida experienced light rainfall, providing relief from the intense heatwave. Commuters in Noida were seen travelling amidst the light rain, cherishing the break from the scorching temperatures.

Swathes of northern and eastern India have been enduring a prolonged heatwave, leading to a rise in heat stroke cases. This prompted the Centre to advise hospitals to create special units for heat-related illnesses. In Delhi, hospitals noted an increase in heat-related emergencies and several fatalities in the past two days.

The IMD stated, "Light to moderate intensity rain and winds with speed of 20-30 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of a few places of North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, Central-Delhi, NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh)." Haryana's Manesar, Ballabhgarh, Sonipat, Kharkhoda, Mattanhail, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Sohana, and Palwal, as well as Uttar Pradesh's Baraut, Bagpat, Meerut, Khekra, Modinagar, Kithor, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Sikandrabad, and Bulandshahar, are also expected to receive rain soon.

Maximum temperatures have been soaring between 43 to 45 degrees Celsius in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and northern Rajasthan. This extreme heat has exacerbated health risks, with many falling prey to heat strokes and exhaustion.

The IMD has also indicated that a western disturbance might bring slight relief over the next few days. Additionally, the conditions are becoming favourable for further progression of the Monsoon, which had stalled from June 12 to 18. This delay has prolonged the waiting period for rains in northern India, which continues to grapple with high temperatures.

As the Monsoon moves forward, the hope is for a more significant reprieve from the oppressive heat. The light showers on Thursday offered a glimpse of the much-anticipated rain, hinting at the Monsoon's impending advance.

Stay updated with real-time weather changes and heatwave alerts across India, ensuring you are prepared for any sudden weather shifts.
