Several regions in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, have experienced heavy rainfall over the past few days. However, Friday saw a break from the intense showers in Mumbai. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that water levels in the city's seven lakes surpassed 70% on Friday, marking a 5 increase from the previous.

IMD Weather Forecast
The India Meteorological (IMD) issued an orange alert for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, and Satara districts for Saturday. This alert indicates the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Additionally, Chandrapur, Gondia, and Gadchiroli districts are also under an orange alert.
In contrast, no orange alerts are expected for any district in Maharashtra from July 28 to 30. The IMD's orange alert advises authorities to prepare for potential heavy rainfall ranging between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within 24 hours. A red alert signifies even more urgent conditions with rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm within the same period.
Localised Weather Updates
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane districts for Saturday, predicting moderate to heavy rain in isolated areas. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 30 degrees Celsius while the minimum will hover around 25 degrees Celsius.
The Regional Meteorological Center in Mumbai posted on X: "Local forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 24 hours. Moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs. Occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 30°C and 25°C."
Rainfall Impact on Pune
Pune city along with other parts of western Maharashtra such as Velha, Mulshi, Bhor talukas, and dam catchment areas experienced continuous rain on Thursday. For Madhya Maharashtra, a red alert has been issued by the weather office for July 26 and 27 due to predictions of extremely heavy downpours.
The BMC noted that Mumbai recorded 81 mm of rain within the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday. Meanwhile, its eastern suburbs received about 80 mm of rain while the western suburbs saw approximately 90 mm.
