Ganta Srinivasa Rao, MLA of Bheemunipatnam, has requested the government to extend the proposed Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project up to Bhogapuram International Airport in its first phase.

Conduction of a Feasibility Study
He made this request during a meeting with P. Narayana, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development in Andhra Pradesh. On Sunday, March 15, 2026, the MLA also met officials who are conducting a feasibility study for the metro project at Kommadi Junction.
Extension of Visakhapatnam Metro Line
During the meeting, Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the proposed metro corridor from Kurmannapalem to Kommadi may not fully meet the project goals. According to him, extending the metro line further up to Bhogapuram International Airport would be more useful in the long run. He explained that this extension would help meet the future transport needs of the region.
Metro Connection to the Airport
The MLA pointed out that several areas in the northern part of Visakhapatnam, including Madhurawada, PM Palem, Boyapalem, and Tagarapuvalasa, are rapidly developing as centres for information technology and tourism. Because of this growth, he said a metro connection to the airport would be very beneficial for IT employees, tourists, and residents who travel frequently in the region.
Ganta Srinivasa Rao also stressed that the metro project should be completed as quickly as possible so that people can start benefiting from it. He urged Minister P. Narayana to speed up the required procedures and approvals for the project.
Completion of the Visakhapatnam Metro within 3 years
The MLA reminded officials that the goal is to complete the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project within three years. According to him, faster progress in planning and construction will help achieve this target and improve public transport facilities in Visakhapatnam and nearby areas.
