To enhance both culture and dining experiences in Varanasi, the Municipal Corporation has launched a project to establish food plazas and courts beneath the city's flyovers and Rail Over Bridges (ROBs). This initiative aims to highlight the rich culinary heritage of Varanasi, allowing both locals and tourists to enjoy the city's famous delicacies like Kachori-Jalebi and Malaiyo in one convenient location.

Municipal Commissioner Akshat Verma shared the vision behind this project: "Food plazas will be opened under the flyovers and ROBs of the city. You will get the taste of Banarasi food here." The Municipal Corporation has already started a survey to identify suitable locations for these food plazas, signaling their commitment to turning this vision into reality.
Key Highlights of the Project
- Location: Under city flyovers and rail overbridges (ROBs).
- Cuisine Focus: Traditional Banarasi dishes.
- Survey: Conducted by the Varanasi Municipal Corporation to plan development.
This initiative aims to offer more than just food. The spaces under the flyovers will be transformed into vibrant, green, and aesthetically pleasing areas. Plans include landscaping, seating areas with benches, and pathways. The pillars and ceilings of these urban spaces will be beautified with colorful paintings to reflect the cultural charm of Varanasi.
Visitor-Friendly Features
To ensure the spaces are welcoming and functional, several practical features are included in the project:
- - Two-wheeler parking spaces.
- - Vending zones.
- - Installation of steel railings for safety.
- - Interlocking pavements for organized pathways.
The combination of these features will provide a comfortable and convenient experience for everyone visiting these food plazas.
Boosting Tourism in Varanasi
This project is expected to significantly enhance the tourist experience in Varanasi. Visitors who come to explore the city's temples and ghats will now have an added attraction - easily accessible Banarasi cuisine served in a lively and picturesque setting. By offering a one-stop location for local foods, the initiative is poised to become a major draw for tourists.
A Celebration of Culture and Innovation
This innovative use of urban spaces highlights Varanasi's creative approach to infrastructure development. By blending culinary experiences with cultural aesthetics, the food plazas will celebrate the city's heritage while adding a modern touch. This initiative not only caters to the taste buds of visitors but also adds charm to the city, making Varanasi an even more attractive destination for travelers worldwide.
Varanasi's unique food plazas are set to become a symbol of the city's evolving identity, combining tradition with thoughtful urban planning.
