To reduce heavy traffic and make travel easier in two of the busiest cities of Uttar Pradesh, the state cabinet has approved several important infrastructure projects. These include the widening of roads in Varanasi and Barabanki, and the construction of a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) and two new flyovers in Kanpur. These changes will help improve traffic flow and strengthen the road network in these fast-growing cities.

Road Expansion in Varanasi
In Varanasi, a major road-widening project will take place on a 9.32-kilometre stretch from Kachari to Sandha via the Asapur intersection. This road, which is currently a two-lane route, will be expanded to four lanes. The Public Works Department will handle this work. The plan also includes widening a 2.4-kilometre road from Kali Mata Temple to Azamgarh Road via Awas Vikas Colony. Another 4.10-kilometre road from Pandeypur intersection to Ring Road will also be widened. These changes aim to reduce traffic jams and make driving in the city smoother.
Barabanki and More Improvements in Varanasi
In Barabanki, a big road improvement project is also planned. A 27.35-kilometre road connecting Intauja, Mohana, Kumharwa, Kursi, Dewan, and Chinhar will be widened from two lanes to four. This will help the local people by making transport faster and easier.
Varanasi will also see the widening of the remaining 6.85-kilometre stretch of the Padav Ramnagar road (Tengra Mod). This road will also be expanded to four lanes, helping reduce travel time for daily commuters and visitors.
New Flyovers and Bridge in Kanpur
In Kanpur, the government will build a new Railway Over Bridge (ROB) near Jarib Chowki on the Anwarganj-Rawatpur railway line. Along with this, a four-lane flyover will be built on GT Road and a two-lane flyover on Ghantaghar Road. These flyovers are expected to solve traffic problems in crowded parts of the city.
Another major improvement in Kanpur will be the rebuilding of a damaged bridge that connects Shuklaganj and Unnao across the Ganga River. This bridge and its approach road will be rebuilt as a four-lane route, making travel safer and more efficient.
All these projects are part of a bigger plan to improve the road and traffic system in Uttar Pradesh. By building flyovers, bridges, and wider roads, the government wants to make travel easier and faster for everyone. Once completed, these projects will not only save time but also help in the economic and social growth of the region by improving connectivity and reducing traffic problems.
