Assam’s wildlife season opens today as Manas National Park welcomes visitors again. Jeep-safari entry through Bansbari and Bhuyanpara ranges is available, with Panbari and Kuklung operating subject to routine weekly closures. Expect morning and afternoon safari slots as teams finish post-monsoon checks. Travellers should confirm today’s active gates at the counter before purchasing permits and boarding jeeps. This year’s reopening was officially slated for October 2.
Permits are issued at range gates; carry government photo ID and pay at the counter. Jeep allocation is managed locally through the Manas Jeep Safari Association. Assam Tourism lists an association manager’s contact for advance coordination and day-of assistance. Independent booking sites exist, but official guidance remains to arrange at gates or through vetted local operators in Bodoland. Weekly closure days continue by range.

Manas National Park safari zones, permits and timings
On-the-ground operators publish three standard jeep slots: 6–9 am, 10 am–1 pm, and 2–5 pm. First-week operations can run shorter while staff inspect bridges and clear salt-lick routes. Check exact slot availability at Bansbari or Bhuyanpara before payment, and factor in range-wise weekly closures when planning multiple drives. Carry cash or UPI for faster gate transactions.
Guwahati–Manas access, last‑mile roads and weather watch
From Guwahati, follow NH‑27 toward Barpeta Road; the last 22 km north reach Bansbari gate. The Forest Department advises allowing roughly five hours by road; Barpeta Road railway station is also 22 km from Bansbari for rail arrivals. Today’s IMD outlook for Guwahati shows a generally cloudy sky with one or two showers, so pack rain covers and buffer drive times.
What opens next in Assam: Kaziranga and Pobitora
Kaziranga National Park opens tomorrow, October 3. An official notice states the park “shall be opened for general tourists… from 3rd October, 2026 onwards.” Central (Kohora) and Western (Bagori) ranges resume first, with others phased in; elephant safaris restart November 1. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary follows on October 13, offering a near‑Guwahati rhino fix for weekend planners.
