Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the development in New Delhi and said many passengers had requested sleeper-class Vande Bharat trains. He said the new train will provide better long-distance travel facilities for passengers travelling overnight. The Vande Bharat train is India's first indigenously developed semi-high-speed train. According to the Railway Minister, the government will continue focusing on railway infrastructure development and passenger comfort over the next five years. He said major improvements have already been made in the railway sector during the last decade.

How is the Government Taking Steps to Boost Long-Distance Affordable Travel?

Vaishnaw stated that nearly 35,000 kilometres of railway tracks have been built across the country in the last 10 years. He added that the government is also paying special attention to passengers from low-income groups by improving affordable travel facilities and introducing better train services.

The Minister further said that production work for the Amrit Bharat Express trains is also progressing. These trains are aimed at offering modern and economical travel options for common passengers.

Speaking about the heavy rush during the summer travel season, Vaishnaw said Indian Railways operated around 20,000 special trains to manage the increased passenger demand. Around four crore passengers travelled on these special services during the summer period.

The Railways expects that the introduction of Vande Bharat sleeper trains will further improve long-distance rail travel in India by offering faster, more modern, and more comfortable overnight journeys for passengers across different regions of the country.
