The United States government has issued a travel advisory warning its citizens to avoid visiting some parts of India. The advisory is meant to keep American travellers safe by informing them about areas where security risks are higher.

According to the advisory, the regions to avoid include parts of eastern Maharashtra, northern Telangana, and western West Bengal. It also advises against travelling to Jammu and Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border, and the state of Manipur.
Safety concerns in Jammu and Kashmir
The advisory says that terrorism and civil unrest are the main reasons why US citizens should not travel to Jammu and Kashmir. The region has seen unrest and tensions in the past, which could be dangerous for travellers.
India-Pakistan border alert
The US also warns its citizens to stay away from areas along the India-Pakistan border. According to the advisory, the area faces the risk of armed conflict. The US government has clearly stated that Americans should not go to this region.
Ethnic conflict in Manipur
In Manipur, the situation remains tense due to ongoing ethnic violence. The advisory explains that these conflicts have displaced many people and have led to continued unrest in the area.
The travel warning also highlights areas where Naxalite groups are active. These regions stretch from eastern Maharashtra to northern Telangana and western West Bengal. Attacks on Indian government workers continue in rural parts of states like Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. These places border other states such as Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and more.
The US government also advises Americans to think carefully before visiting the northeastern states of India. Ethnic insurgent groups are said to be present in several parts of the region, which may make travel risky.
Apart from regional conflicts, the advisory raises concerns about violent crimes in India. It states that rape is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the country. Crimes like sexual assault have been reported even at tourist places and public areas. The US government’s advice is not meant to scare people but to make them aware of the possible dangers. It serves as a guide to help American travellers make safer decisions while planning their trips to India.
