Madgaon-Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express will be Extended to Bengaluru

The existing Madgaon-Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express will soon be extended to Bengaluru, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced. The extended service will connect Bengaluru with Mangaluru and Madgaon through Subrahmanya Road and Kabaka Puttur, improving rail connectivity between Karnataka's coastal region and the state capital.

According to a letter dated September 28, the train will operate under new numbers 26655/26656 and will be known as the Yesvantpur-Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express. The service will run according to a revised timetable. The decision was taken following a request submitted by Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta on August 6, 2025.

How will this Extension Benefit Passengers?

The extension addresses a long-standing demand from passengers, industry organisations and elected representatives in coastal Karnataka. They had been seeking a premium semi-high-speed train between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, particularly after the Hassan-Mangaluru ghat section was fully electrified.

The new service is expected to improve travel connectivity for business travellers, tourists, students and IT professionals travelling between Bengaluru and Mangaluru. It is also expected to provide faster and more comfortable rail travel between Bengaluru, coastal Karnataka and Goa.

Before the service is introduced for regular passengers, railway officials have conducted several trial runs using a 16-coach Vande Bharat train on the Yesvantpur-Mangaluru route. Full-route trials were also carried out through the Hassan-Mangaluru ghat section. These trials were conducted to check operational performance, safety parameters and running time.

The introduction of the extended Vande Bharat service is expected to reduce travel time and provide passengers with a modern rail travel option. However, the Railways has not yet announced the exact commencement date or revised timetable. These details are expected to be released shortly.
