The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that a nationwide civil defence mock drill will take place on May 7. Uttar Pradesh, being one of the largest and most populated states, is actively preparing for the exercise. This drill is meant to check how well the state is ready to protect people in case of an emergency or hostile attack.

Improving Readiness Against Threats
This initiative comes at a time when national security is under focus due to increasing threats, including recent incidents like the terror attack in Pahalgam. The mock drills will be held in all 244 selected civil defence districts across India, including several in Uttar Pradesh. The drills will cover cities, towns, and even villages to make sure every area is ready.
Drill Activities Across Uttar Pradesh
The activities will include air-raid warning sirens, instructions for people on how to protect themselves, and crash-blackouts to hide key areas at night. Important buildings like factories and power stations will be covered for camouflage. People will also learn about evacuation plans in case of a real attack.
Communication systems such as radio links and hotlines with the Indian Air Force will be tested. This will help the civil defence team check if all control rooms and communication lines are working smoothly.

The drills in Uttar Pradesh will be held in a variety of areas-some marked as high priority due to their population and importance, and others as medium or low priority. Cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, and Varanasi are expected to play a key role due to their size and strategic value.
