UP Launches 40 New E-Buses For Kanpur To Lucknow Routes; Check Details

The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has introduced 40 new e-buses for passengers travelling from the Major Salman Khan Interstate Bus Station (Jhakarkati) to Prayagraj, Lucknow, and Rae Bareli. This addition increases the total number of air-conditioned buses in the Kanpur region to 100. RG Mobility Company will manage these operations, ensuring a comfortable journey for passengers on these routes.

Project Details and Route Allocation

From September 2025, RG Mobility Company will operate these 40 e-buses on specific routes: 15 buses will travel from Kanpur to Lucknow, another 15 to Rae Bareli, and the remaining 10 to Prayagraj. The UPSRTC aims to finalise additional routes soon, enhancing connectivity across cities like Lucknow, Rae Bareli, and Prayagraj.

Infrastructure Development

To support this initiative, construction is underway for a bus terminal in Azad Nagar and a charging station in Vikas Nagar. The Azad Nagar facility will feature six charging points, with one point capable of charging two e-buses simultaneously. This setup allows for the simultaneous charging of up to 12 e-buses.

Currently, the Kanpur region operates 60 air-conditioned buses. With the addition of these new e-buses, the total count rises to 100. These buses are intended for intercity services, providing passengers with a smooth and comfortable transport experience.

Mahesh Kumar, Regional Manager of Transport Corporation, stated that "40 e-buses have been allotted to the Kanpur region of Roadways. Transport Corporation has signed an MoU with RG Mobility Company for their operation. In the first phase, routes have been decided for running e-buses. The process is underway to build a bus terminal in Azad Nagar and a charging station in Vikas Nagar. From September, e-buses of Roadways will start operating on fixed routes from Kanpur."

The UPSRTC's decision aligns with its broader strategy to enhance public transportation infrastructure by incorporating eco-friendly solutions like electric buses. This move not only boosts regional connectivity but also promotes sustainable travel options within Uttar Pradesh.
