The construction of the four-lane road connecting Ujjain to Garoth is almost complete, with 90% of the work already finished. This project will improve travel between Ujjain and major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Vadodara. Soon, vehicles will be able to drive at speeds of over 100 kmph on this stretch, making travel quicker and reducing fuel consumption. The remaining work, including a railway overbridge in Ujjain and some minor tasks up to Kheda Khajuria, is expected to be completed in the next three months.

A Major Infrastructure Development
The Ujjain-Garoth highway is being built with a budget of Rs 2,660 crore. It will improve connectivity between Ujjain and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The total length of the highway is 160 kilometres, with only 10% of the work left to complete. The unfinished part is a 41-kilometre stretch from Ujjain to Kheda Khajuria, where a railway overbridge is also under construction. Additionally, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved connecting Shamgarh to this four-lane road, further improving the network.
Dividing Work for Timely Completion
The project began in November 2022 under NHAI. To ensure it was finished on time, the work was divided among three construction companies-GHV, Ravi Infra, and MKC Infra. While Ravi Infra and MKC Infra have completed their parts, GHV faced delays due to land allocation issues. However, the company is now expected to complete the remaining 10% of work soon. Originally, all three companies were given a deadline of July 2024, but due to delays, an extension of 207 days was granted. Now, authorities hope the project will be completed within a month.
Impact on Travel and Local Communities
The new road passes through 89 villages and several districts, including Mandsaur, where work is already complete. Once fully opened, the highway will reduce travel time between Ujjain and Garoth to just one to one and a half hours. This will benefit many villages along the route, including 13 in Ujjain, 10 in Ghattiya, 20 in Mahidpur, 11 in Barod, 3 in Dag, 11 in Gangdhar, 10 in Suwasara, 7 in Shamgarh, and 4 in Garoth.
Even though the project is not fully completed, travelers have already started enjoying the benefits of the partially finished road. The ease of commuting has made a noticeable difference for people using the route. Once fully opened, it will make trips to major cities faster, saving both time and fuel.
As the final touches are added to the Ujjain-Garoth highway, anticipation is growing. This road is not just a new route-it represents progress in infrastructure and better connectivity for the region. With vehicles soon able to travel at high speeds, the journey from Ujjain to Garoth and beyond will be quicker and more efficient, marking a major step forward in regional development.
