Uber Green has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) fleet to Kolkata, making it the fourth Indian city to receive the service after Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. This is the second EV-only cab fleet in Kolkata, following Snap E. Uber Green was introduced in India in June last year and allows users to book electric rides through its dedicated app. The service uses Tata Tigor EVs, which have a range of around 300 km on a single charge.

West Bengal Transport Minister commends Uber Green
Snehasis Chakraborty, Transport Minister of West Bengal, praised Uber for launching Uber Green in Kolkata, calling it "a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions in our city." The service will also be available at Kolkata's international airport. However, Uber has not disclosed the number of EVs deployed in Kolkata or any details about its expansion plans in the city.
Booking Uber Green through the existing app
Users do not need to download a new app to book an Uber Green ride; the service is available within the existing Uber app. According to Uber, the option has been available since May last year. After launching in a new city, the company updates the app with a dedicated tab for booking Uber Green cabs.
Uber aims to become a zero-emission mobility platform by 2030 in Europe and North America and has set a global target of 2040 to transition to an all-EV service provider.
