Tumakuru May Soon Become ‘Bengaluru North’ as Government Plans to Merge the Two

The Karnataka government is thinking about a big change in how districts are managed. The state may soon merge Tumakuru district with Bengaluru city. This idea was shared by Home Minister G Parameshwara, who said the move would help match Bengaluru's fast growth. The plan is to rename Tumakuru as "Bengaluru North district."

Tumakuru May Soon Become Bengaluru North

Parameshwara explained that Bengaluru is growing rapidly and has already reached nearby areas like Nelamangala. Tumakuru is only about 30 kilometers away from the state capital, so merging the two could make development easier and more organized.

New Changes in District Boundaries

As part of this plan, the government has prepared a proposal to include 14 gram panchayats under the city's municipal limits. This means Tumakuru's city administration will get bigger and stronger. The goal is to make the area easier to manage and support its growth in the future.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also suggested that Ramanagara city be added to Bengaluru South district. Parameshwara praised this idea, which has already been approved by the government and included in official records.

Upcoming Infrastructure Projects

To support these changes, infrastructure improvements are also being planned. Minister Parameshwara said he has asked Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to allow the construction of a "Welcome" arch on the National Highway in Tumakuru. For this, Rs 5 crore has been set aside from the Smart City project budget.

These efforts are part of a larger vision to improve how the growing regions around Bengaluru are connected and developed.

Why the Name 'Bengaluru North'?

Parameshwara explained that renaming Tumakuru as "Bengaluru North" would make the place more known internationally. He said, "There is a difference between Tumkur district and Bengaluru North district. For people sitting in New York, Bengaluru North is easier to understand." This new name could help raise the city's profile across the world.

Planning for the Future

With Bengaluru's growth expected to reach other nearby cities like Ramanagara, Kolar, and Chikkaballapur, the government is planning ahead. This proposal is part of a bigger strategy to manage development, improve services, and support the people in these regions.
