Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk. Officials now aim to finish the remaining work by the end of March 2026, after which the line will be opened for the public.

Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Corridor

The full Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor is 23 kilometres long and is being built as a completely elevated route. Construction of the project began in November 2011. Most of the work has already been completed, with only about five kilometres of construction remaining. Authorities have confirmed that this remaining portion will also be finished by March 2026. Once operational, this will become Pune's third Metro route.

How Will the New Metro Line Help?

The new Metro line is expected to significantly reduce traffic on the busy Baner-Hinjawadi road, one of the most congested routes in the city. Hinjawadi is a major IT and employment hub, and commuters have long faced heavy traffic and long travel times while going to work. The Metro service will help save time, reduce fuel usage, lower pollution levels, and provide a reliable and comfortable transport option for thousands of daily passengers.

Double-Decker Flyover

Along with the Metro project, the double-decker flyover at Acharya Anand Rishiji Chowk is also nearing completion. The lower level will be used for regular road traffic, while the upper level will carry Metro tracks. The Aundh-to-Shivajinagar side of the flyover has already been opened, giving partial relief to commuters. Work on the Baner and Pashan sides is still ongoing.

With trial runs completed and final work in progress, Pune is moving closer to a stronger public transport system that will ease daily travel problems and improve overall connectivity in the city.
