Starting April 1, traveling in Himachal Pradesh will become more expensive as the state government has announced an increase in toll fees for the financial year 2025-26. The revised charges will apply to both private and commercial vehicles, affecting tourists, transporters, and daily commuters.

New Toll Charges for Vehicles
The toll fee at 55 barriers across the state will increase by Rs 10 for private cars and commercial passenger vehicles, while cargo and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will see a Rs 20 rise. The updated rates are as follows:
- Private vehicles: Rs 70 (previously Rs 60)
- 6-12 seater passenger vehicles: Rs 110 (previously Rs 90)
- Vehicles with more than 12 passengers: Rs 180 (previously Rs 160)
- Heavy goods vehicles (HGVs): Rs 570 (previously Rs 550)
These changes are part of the state's efforts to adjust road usage fees and generate more revenue for infrastructure maintenance.
55 Toll Barriers Across the State
Himachal Pradesh has 55 entry barriers where vehicles from other states must pay toll charges. The Himachal Pradesh Entry Tax Rules, 2012 govern these. The barriers are spread across various districts, with:
- 15 toll points in Una
- 13 in Solan
- 8 in Sirmaur
- Others spread across the state
Some of the busiest toll points are near popular tourist destinations like Shimla and Manali. The Parwanoo barrier on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway (NH-5) is one of the most used entry points for tourists heading to Shimla.
No Exemptions for Goods Vehicles
Goods vehicles registered within Himachal Pradesh will also have to pay the increased toll fees. The government has introduced quarterly and annual passes for regular commuters to ease the financial burden.
Toll Fees for Goods Vehicles
The toll charges for goods vehicles vary based on their load capacity:
- Vehicles carrying 120-250 quintals: Rs 570
- Vehicles carrying 90-120 quintals: Rs 320 (previously Rs 300)
- Vehicles carrying 20-90 quintals: Rs 170 (previously Rs 150)
- Goods vehicles below 20 quintals: Rs 130 (previously Rs 110)
- Private and public tractors: Rs 70 (previously Rs 50)
The government aims to use the increased toll revenue for road maintenance and infrastructure development in the state. The decision is expected to improve road conditions and support smoother travel for both residents and visitors. While this hike may add to travel costs, it is intended to ensure better facilities and safer roads in the long run.
