Namma Metro's Blue Line: Bengaluru's Metro's Blue has been Delayed until 2027 Due to Technical Work

The opening of Bengaluru's much-awaited Namma Metro Blue Line is likely to be delayed until 2027 as several important construction and technical works are still pending. The line was earlier expected to become operational by the end of 2026, but the latest progress suggests that commercial services may begin only in early 2027. There is also a possibility that the launch could be pushed further to the middle of 2027.

Namma Metro's Blue Line Delay until 2027

The Blue Line is an important metro project for Bengaluru as it will run along the busy Outer Ring Road (ORR) and connect Central Silk Board with KR Pura. The nearly 19-km Phase 2A section will serve several important areas and IT hubs, providing an alternative to the heavily congested ORR.

However, construction work is yet to be completed at several locations. Pending work includes parts of the viaduct, station construction, and connectivity to the Byappanahalli depot, which is important for metro train operations and maintenance. Work at Marathahalli and Central Silk Board is among the areas facing delays.

Bengaluru's Metro Blue Line Facing Challenges

The Iblur station has also faced construction challenges because of underground utility lines, including a high-pressure gas pipeline and water pipelines. Land acquisition and design-related issues have added to the delay. At Central Silk Board, permissions and site clearances needed for viaduct construction were received late, affecting progress.
BMRCL is reportedly aiming to begin trial runs between KR Pura and HSR Layout in October. However, completing the remaining civil and systems work within the required timeline remains challenging.

Another concern is the proposed ₹450-crore white-topping project on the ORR. The road improvement work is planned from October 2026 to January 2027. If the road project and Metro construction overlap, commuters could face additional traffic problems on an already busy corridor.

The Blue Line is expected to significantly improve public transport along Bengaluru's major IT corridor once operational. However, commuters may now have to wait longer before the service begins.
