Electric Buses To Run Between Manali To Rohtang Pass

The Himachal Road Transport Corporation took up the initiative to switch to electric buses from Manali to Rohtang Pass.

Because electric vehicles (EVs) can drastically cut vehicular emissions, unlike vehicles associated with petrol and diesel automobiles; the Himachal Road Transport Corporation took up an initiative to switch to electric buses from Manali to Rohtang Pass - one of the busiest routes in the state. For this journey, passengers will be charged a total of Rs 600 per person i.e. one seat.

A total of three electric buses with a capacity of 25 passengers have been added to the route, which was opened for tourists at the end of last week. As indicated by some reports, the buses will start their journey from the Manali bus stand at 8 am, 8:30 am and 9 am. After stopping at Rohtang Pass, they will return to Manali Bus Stand to complete the round trip. A total of Rs 600 per person will be charged to the passengers for this journey.

The bus will pass through these roads

The climb from Manali to Rohtang Pass will start in the morning and will take the passengers through the towns of Kothi, Gulaba and Marhi. After Rohtang Pass, we will also stay for some time at Koksar in Lahaul Valley. While returning, the electric buses will pass through the Atal Tunnel, which is famous for being the world's longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet. The entire journey is to be completed in a single charge, and the buses will be recharged only once at the Manali Bus Stand. A helpful feature in EVs during travel is that slightly recharge the battery every time the brakes are applied.

Pass will not be needed

Visitors using private vehicles require a permit to visit the Rohtang Pass, which is quite difficult to obtain during the summer season due to the sheer volume of tourists visiting the destination. According to the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), only 1200 private vehicles are allowed to enter Rohtang Pass per day. However, passengers travelling in these electric buses will not require this permit to travel to the destination.
