The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken an important step to ensure the fast completion of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway. Starting after Holi, heavy vehicles will be restricted on this route to allow smooth construction. This restriction will be in place for two months, followed by a complete traffic ban on certain sections until mid-May. The goal is to complete the expressway by June without delays caused by heavy traffic.

New Traffic Routes for Vehicles
To manage traffic during this period, NHAI has introduced diversion routes:
- Lucknow to Kanpur: Vehicles will be rerouted via the Outer Ring Road, using a slip road near Daroga Khera.
- Kanpur to Lucknow: Traffic will be directed toward Dahi Chowki.
- Alternative Route for Kanpur Vehicles: Vehicles can take a detour via Pradhan Dhaba (Bani) to Mohanlalganj and Gosaiganj, then connect to the Purvanchal Expressway.
Slip Road and Outer Ring Road Under Construction
At Daroga Khera, a slip road is being built to allow a smooth diversion for vehicles. This is crucial for placing girders on the elevated road between Daroga Khera and Bani. 80% of the slip road is already completed, and it is expected to be fully ready by Holi. This temporary route will help vehicles bypass the construction area without causing congestion.
Why the Restriction Is Necessary
Every day, about 100,000 heavy vehicles travel between Lucknow and Kanpur. This heavy traffic slows down construction and creates massive congestion. Large trailers and multi-axle trucks have difficulty navigating sharp turns, leading to traffic jams. To solve this issue, NHAI is working rapidly on the Greenfield section of the expressway, extending from Bani to Hinaura. Land acquisition and construction are in progress to ensure a smooth traffic flow without major diversions.
The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is a major infrastructure project that will greatly improve travel between the two cities. The NHAI's temporary traffic restrictions will help speed up construction and reduce delays. Once the expressway is fully completed, traffic will return to its normal route, ensuring faster and smoother travel between Lucknow and Kanpur.
