BJP leader and Nemom MLA Rajeev Chandrasekhar has asked the Kerala government to extend the first phase of the proposed Thiruvananthapuram Metro from Pappanamcode to Nemom railway station. He said that stopping the Metro at Pappanamcode would be an incomplete solution and that extending the line to Nemom would make the project more useful to people in the area.
Thiruvananthapuram Metro First Phase Extension
The approved first phase of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro is planned as a 31-kilometre corridor with 27 stations. The proposed route is expected to improve public transport and provide better connectivity across important parts of the city. Chandrasekhar has suggested that the extension to Nemom should be included in the first phase itself rather than being considered later.
According to the proposal, taking the Metro to Nemom railway station would provide a direct connection between the Metro network and the railway system. This could make it easier for passengers to change between Metro trains and regular trains. Nemom is also an important transport location in the southern part of the city.
Chandrasekhar has urged the Kerala government to examine the proposal and take the necessary steps to include the extension. He stated that completing the Metro connection up to Nemom would provide greater benefits to commuters and improve the overall usefulness of the project.
The demand comes as planning for the Thiruvananthapuram Metro continues. The Detailed Project Report also proposes important transport hubs at locations such as Pappanamcode and Anayara, which are intended to connect different modes of public transport.
If the proposed extension is approved, people living in and around Nemom could get easier access to the Metro. It could also improve connections between road, rail and Metro services, making public transportation more convenient and reducing dependence on private vehicles.
