The long-awaited Metro service on Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru has moved one step closer to becoming a reality. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has received an important approval for the trains that will operate on the Pink Line, given by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), and it is one of the final requirements before the trains can be officially used for passenger services.

The approval is significant because the 7.5-km elevated section of the Pink Line is almost ready. This section runs from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere and has six stations. It will provide Metro connectivity to important areas along Bannerghatta Road and is expected to make daily travel easier for thousands of commuters.
However, a few important formalities are still pending. BMRCL is waiting for the Internal Safety Assessment (ISA) certificate for the signalling system. This certificate is expected to be received within a week. After that, the CMRS is likely to carry out the required safety inspection of the line, possibly after the middle of September. The Metro can begin operations only after the remaining government approvals are completed.
BMRCL is currently aiming to open the elevated Pink Line section by the end of September. If the target is achieved, commuters on Bannerghatta Road will finally have a faster and more convenient public transport option. The opening of this section will also increase Bengaluru's operational Metro network to about 103.6 km. This would help Bengaluru become the second-longest Metro network in India, overtaking Mumbai.
The Pink Line is part of Bengaluru's larger Metro expansion plan. Once the remaining approvals and safety procedures are completed, the new service is expected to provide better connectivity, reduce dependence on road transport, and offer some relief from the heavy traffic regularly seen on Bannerghatta Road.
