The first-ever Kailash-Mansarovar Darshan Flight embarked on its journey from Nepalgunj, carrying 38 Indian pilgrims on a remarkable expedition to the sacred Kailash Mansarovar. This chartered flight, operated by Shri Airlines, promises a unique and awe-inspiring experience, soaring to an elevation of 27,000 ft and offering an up-close view of the revered Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake.

A Spiritual Marvel Unveiled from the Sky
The chartered flight, a remarkable venture by the Siddhartha Business Group, showcased the divine beauty of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in a swift one-and-a-half-hour journey. The pilgrimage sites, nestled in the Ngari prefecture of the Tibet Autonomous Region, hold deep significance for Hindus worldwide, as well as for Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Tibet's indigenous Bonpa faith.
Revival After Pandemic Hurdles
After a hiatus due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, China reopened the pilgrimage route in 2023. However, the prospect of substantial fees and stringent visa restrictions hindered the pilgrimage for Indian devotees. The Kailash-Mansarovar Darshan Flight emerged as a beacon of hope, overcoming these obstacles and rekindling the spiritual journey for 38 eager Indian pilgrims.
Affordable, Efficient, and Accessible
Keshav Neupane, the regional director of Siddhartha Business Group, emphasized the affordability, efficiency, reliability, and safety of the chartered flight. The diverse group of pilgrims, hailing from major Indian cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh, experienced a smooth and accessible journey to the sacred sites.
Future Plans for Pilgrim Convenience
Neupane shared plans for subsequent chartered flights, scheduled to operate in the first week of February and beyond, based on demand. This approach aims to make the pilgrimage more accessible and convenient for devotees, simplifying the journey and ensuring a seamless experience.

Border Tourism Movement Enhanced
Mani Lamichhane, director at Nepal Tourism Board, highlighted the strategic significance of this initiative in boosting the border tourism movement. The location of Nepalgunj, a mere 200 km northeast of Lucknow in India and accessible by road, positions it as an ideal gateway for pilgrims. The shortened journey allows Indian tourists to witness the divine beauty of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar without the need to travel to Kathmandu.
A New Chapter in Pilgrimage Tourism
This pioneering chartered flight not only streamlines the pilgrimage process but also contributes to the diversification and expansion of tourism in the region. Lamichhane expressed optimism that this innovative approach would open new avenues in tourism, making the sacred sites more reachable for pilgrims.
The Kailash-Mansarovar Darshan Flight marks a significant milestone in pilgrimage tourism, offering a unique and efficient mode of experiencing the spiritual wonders of Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake. The initiative showcases the resilience and adaptability of pilgrimage journeys in the face of challenges, ensuring that the divine beauty of these sacred sites remains accessible to devotees.
