Mumbai is getting more metro connections in 2026 to help people travel faster and more easily across the city and suburbs. Several metro lines are being built, and parts of them are expected to open for passengers this year.

Phase 1 of Metro Line 9
One important project is Phase 1 of Metro Line 9, which extends the existing Line 7 from Dahisar East to Mira Bhayandar. Four stations on this 4.5-km stretch are almost ready, ending near Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium in Bhayandar. Safety checks by authorities began in December, and officials are working to clear final approvals. The planned opening was first aimed for December, but is now likely in January 2026. Once this section opens, people in Mira Bhayandar will be able to connect with Lines 7, 2A, 1, and 3 for easier travel across Mumbai.
Metro Line 2B
Another important part of the metro expansion is Metro Line 2B. Some stations on this line are also ready and are currently being tested for safety. When finished, Line 2B will run from DN Nagar through Bandra, Kurla, Chembur, and reach Mankhurd, improving east-west connectivity. The second phase of this line is expected to open in mid-2026.
Metro Line 4 & 4A Project
The Line 4 and 4A project will connect Thane and Mumbai. The first 10.5-km part from Cadbury Junction to Gaimukh, including a short extension from Kasarvadavali, is expected to start running in 2026. A few delays have occurred due to design issues, but authorities are working to open more sections soon.
Mumbai Metro Line 6
Lastly, Metro Line 6, running along the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, aims to be fully operational by mid-2026. This line will pass through key areas like Andheri, Saki Vihar Road, Powai, and Kanjurmarg, making travel easier for many commuters.
