How will Thane Metro Benefit People?

Sarnaik shared the update on social media and described the successful trial run as an important milestone before regular passenger services begin. He said the project would provide relief to commuters and improve public transport facilities in Thane.
The upcoming Metro service is expected to benefit people living in several areas, including Gaimukh, Kasarvadavali, Waghbil, Manpada, Tikujiniwadi, Dongripada, Vijay Garden and Kapurbawdi. The route is expected to offer a faster travel option for residents travelling across Thane.

The Metro service will also provide an alternative to road transport. With Thane witnessing rapid population growth and increasing traffic congestion, the new service is expected to reduce pressure on roads and make daily travel more convenient. The Metro will offer commuters a faster, safer and more reliable public transport option.
According to Sarnaik, the completion of the trial run marks an important step towards starting regular Metro operations. Authorities will now complete the remaining procedures and approvals required before passenger services can begin.

The project forms part of Metro Route 4, which is a 32.32-km elevated corridor connecting Wadala and Kasarvadavali. According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the corridor is planned to improve connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and provide better transport links between Mumbai, Thane and nearby areas.

With the trial run now completed, commuters in several parts of Thane are awaiting the start of passenger services, which are expected by December 2026.
