Thailand Rolls Out Extended Visa Exemption For Tourists From India And Taiwan

Thailand has extended its visa exemption policy for tourists from India and Taiwan until November 11, allowing a 30-day stay. This move aims to rejuvenate Thailand's tourism sector, heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, by simplifying visa regulations and enhancing the travel experience for visitors.

In a recent move to boost its tourism sector, Thailand's cabinet has approved an extension of visa exemption for tourists from India and Taiwan. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin confirmed that this visa waiver will now be extended until November 11, following the of the current exemption. This decision enables visitors stay in Thailand for to 30 days, allowing them more time to discover country's varied attractions and support its economy.

The extension of the visa exemption program is a continuation of the success seen from the initial waiver introduced last November. Previously, tourists from these nations were allowed a 15-day stay under a visa-on-arrival scheme. Now, they will enjoy a longer, visa-free entry. This move is part of Thailand's broader strategy to revive its tourism industry, heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, by simplifying visa regulations for travellers, especially from major markets like China, Russia, and now India and Taiwan.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports highlighted a significant uptick in foreign tourist arrivals in the first four months of 2024. Over 12 million visitors were recorded, marking a 39% increase from the previous year. Tourists from China, Malaysia, Russia, South Korea, and India made up half of these arrivals, emphasizing the critical role these countries play in Thailand's tourism recovery.

Thailand's appeal to Indian tourists is evident, with millions visiting each year to experience its vibrant culture, breathtaking beaches, and dynamic cities. Locations such as Bangkok, Phuket, and Koh Samui offer a plethora of activities catering to varied tastes, from sampling delicious street food and exploring historical temples to enjoying the pristine beaches.

The country's proximity and affordability, combined with its warm hospitality, exciting nightlife, and rich cultural heritage, make Thailand a top destination for Indian travellers. This latest extension of visa exemptions reaffirms Thailand's commitment to welcoming tourists from India and Taiwan, ensuring they enjoy a longer and more enriching travel experience.
