Temporary Toll Increase on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Due to Route Diversion

Travelers using the Mumbai-Pune Expressway should be prepared for a temporary increase in toll charges. The toll hike will apply only during a specific time of the day-between 12 noon and 3 pm. During these hours, motorists will have to pay an additional Rs 10 due to a short-term route diversion.

Mumbai-Pune Expressway News

According to Marathi India Times, the reason for this temporary change is a detour that will divert vehicles from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway to National Highway 48, also known as the old Mumbai-Pune Highway, at Varsoli. Because of this rerouting, drivers will have to pay an additional Rs 90 at the toll plaza on this route.

Revised Toll Charges

Under normal conditions, the total toll cost for traveling from Mumbai to Pune is Rs 320, which includes:
- Rs 240 at the Khalapur toll plaza
- Rs 80 for the last stretch into Pune

However, with the temporary diversion, the total cost between 12 noon and 3 pm will increase to Rs 330 due to the extra toll at Varsoli.

Mumbai-Pune Expressway: Key Information

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, also called the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, is a 94.5 km long, six-lane highway that has greatly improved travel between Mumbai and Pune. Built at a cost of approximately Rs 16,300 crore, it has significantly reduced travel time between the two cities.

Previously, the journey between Mumbai and Pune took about three hours, but with the expressway, it now takes just one hour. This has made it a popular route for both daily commuters and long-distance travelers.

Speed Limits and Future Plans

Unlike some expressways that allow vehicles to run at speeds up to 180 km per hour, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway has a speed limit of 100 km per hour to ensure safety.

Additionally, two more lanes will be added to the expressway in the coming months. This expansion aims to reduce congestion and further improve travel efficiency.

Duration of Toll Increase

The increased toll rates came into effect on Monday, January 27, and will remain in place until Wednesday, January 29. After this period, toll charges will return to normal.

While the temporary toll hike and diversion may cause minor inconvenience, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway continues to provide fast and efficient travel between the two cities. With future developments, including the expansion of lanes, this expressway will remain a crucial link for commuters and travelers alike.
