Centre to Fund ₹28,740 Crore for Hyderabad Metro Phase II After Telangana Takes Over Phase I

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi said the Central government is ready to provide ₹28,740 crore for Phase II of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. However, he made it clear that this money will be released only after the Telangana government completes its agreement to take over Phase I from L&T and submits a detailed project report (DPR) for the new Metro phase.

Telangana to Receive Funds

Speaking to the media at the BJP office in Nampally, Joshi said Telangana will receive ₹33,180 crore as its share of central taxes, based on the 15th Finance Commission's recommendation of 41 per cent tax devolution. He also said urban local bodies in the state will get an additional ₹11,448 crore. Highlighting past support, Joshi said the Centre has given Telangana around ₹12.5 lakh crore over the last 12 years. He also pointed out that the Union Budget for 2026-27 has allotted a record ₹5,337 crore for railway projects in Telangana, much higher than the ₹886 crore given to undivided Andhra Pradesh during the UPA government's time.

Additional Statements to Justify Receiving Funds

Joshi said India is aiming to become one of the world's top economies and has already reached third place globally. To support this growth, the Centre has increased capital spending on infrastructure to ₹12 lakh crore, compared to ₹2 lakh crore during the UPA years. He added that the government has identified 24 important minerals needed for future technologies such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and green hydrogen.

Calling the Union Budget forward-looking, Joshi said it focuses on future industries like semiconductors, logistics, biopharma, medical tourism, and infrastructure, while ensuring balanced development across all states. He also said India is the world's fourth-largest producer of renewable energy and is expanding solar power, battery storage, lithium sourcing, and battery manufacturing to provide clean and affordable electricity.

Responding to a question, Joshi said central funds are meant for public welfare and are sent directly for people's benefit, not for political gain. Later, he spoke at a Vyapari Samvad event attended by BJP leaders and representatives of trade organisations.
