As the Sankranti festival travel season begins in southern India, railways and road transport services have made major arrangements to help passengers reach their homes. Every year at this time, thousands of people from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh travel long distances to celebrate Sankranti with family. To manage the heavy

passenger rush, the South Central Railway (SCR) has launched a large number of special trains on key routes connecting important cities, towns, and pilgrimage destinations in both states.
150 Additional Trains
Railway officials have announced up to 150 additional special trains for the festive period, running across many major routes from Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and surrounding regions to destinations such as Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Narsapur, and Tirupati. These extra trains are meant to handle the surge in demand, clear waitlists, and give travellers more travel options in January.
Special Trains
In addition to the large-scale special train operations, SCR is also running specific Jansadharan (unreserved) special trains between busy stations like Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, as well as services connecting Charlapalli with Kakinada Town and Tirupati. These trains run on set dates before and after the main festival, stopping at many important intermediate stations to serve passengers across the region.
With travel demand peaking around the festival dates, railway stations such as Secunderabad, Lingampally, and Cherlapalli are preparing for very high footfall, with daily passenger numbers expected to rise dramatically during the rush. To support this, SCR has also deployed additional ground and security staff, improved ticketing facilities, and coordinated operations to keep travel smoother and safer during the Sankranti season.
Moreover, the expanded train services aim to provide easier travel, reduce overcrowding, and ensure festival travellers in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh can reach their destinations with greater convenience.
