The Government of India has approved 40 tourism projects in 23 states under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) - Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale. The total investment for these projects in Financial Year 2024-25 is ₹3295.76 crore. This scheme aims to develop famous tourist places, promote them globally, and improve facilities for visitors.

Two Tourism Projects for Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu has received two major tourism projects under the SASCI scheme:
1. Nandavanam Heritage Park at Mamallapuram - ₹99.67 crore
2. Garden of Flowers at Devala, Ooty - ₹70.23 crore
These projects will boost tourism in Tamil Nadu, making it more attractive for both Indian and foreign visitors.
How Projects Were Selected
The Ministry of Tourism asked State Governments to submit proposals for tourism projects. The projects were selected based on factors like:
- Connectivity to the site
- Tourism facilities available
- Environmental sustainability
- Impact on local economy
- Marketing plans for global promotion
Once a project is approved, it is implemented by State agencies, while the Ministry of Tourism reviews its progress to ensure smooth development.
Promoting Tamil Nadu as a Top Tourist Destination
The Ministry of Tourism promotes popular and lesser-known tourist places in India through various ways, such as:
- Official website and social media promotions
- Participation in travel events
- Helping states organize fairs and festivals
With the Nandavanam Heritage Park in Mamallapuram and the Garden of Flowers in Ooty, Tamil Nadu is set to attract more tourists. These projects will not only enhance tourism but also create new job opportunities and improve local businesses.
This initiative will make Tamil Nadu a top tourist destination on the global map, offering visitors a better and more enjoyable experience.
