Stalin Sets February Deadline to Complete Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro in Chennai as 27-Project Review

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has asked officials to complete the Metro Rail stretch between Poonamallee and Vadapalani by February. He gave this direction while reviewing the progress of important State government projects on Monday.

Major Works Under Infrastructure Projects

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also stated that officials to speed up work on other major infrastructure projects. These include the construction of the new bus termini at Kuthambakkam and Chengalpattu. He stressed that these bus terminals should be finished as soon as possible to reduce traffic congestion and improve public transport facilities. In addition, Stalin directed officials to quickly complete the skywalk that will connect the Kilambakkam bus terminus with the nearby highway, so that passengers can move safely and easily.

Review Meeting

The review meeting covered 27 key projects being carried out by six different government departments. These projects together are estimated to cost about ₹87,941 crore. The Chief Minister stated that all these major projects should be completed by January, showing the government's focus on meeting deadlines and avoiding delays.

Officials also shared an update on the overall progress of development works in the State. Across various departments, a total of 288 projects worth around ₹3,17,693 crore are currently underway. Out of these, 85 projects have already been completed. The remaining projects are at different stages of construction and execution.

The Chief Minister closely monitored the progress and asked departments to ensure timely completion while maintaining quality. He also stressed better coordination between departments to avoid bottlenecks and speed up work.

The review meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, and several other senior government officials. The presence of top leaders highlighted the importance given to these projects, which are expected to improve transport, connectivity, and public infrastructure across the State.
