Storm Alert Issued: Kolkata and Bengal Districts Brace for Heavy Rain and Stormy Winds

Residents of Kolkata and other districts of South Bengal should get ready for more rain and storms until April 30. According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in many parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata. An official alert has been announced to stay in effect until Wednesday. Wind speeds may reach up to 70 kilometers per hour during this period.

Kolkata Brace for Heavy Rain

Cooler Temperatures Bring Relief from Heat

The recent rain has brought much-needed relief from the hot weather that had been troubling people. Kolkata and nearby areas have seen a good drop in temperature. On Sunday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 23.6 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees lower than normal. On Saturday, the maximum temperature was 34.2 degrees Celsius, about 1.4 degrees below average. The rain and cool breeze have made the weather pleasant for many residents.

Orange Alert Issued for Several Districts

An orange alert, which means that serious weather events are expected, has been issued for Monday. The alert is for districts like Hooghly, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, East Burdwan, and West Burdwan. People living in these areas have been asked to be careful, as 7 to 11 centimeters of rain could fall, along with strong winds reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour. Thunderstorms are likely to continue across almost all districts of Bengal until Wednesday.

North Bengal Also to Face Heavy Rainfall

It is not just South Bengal that will be affected. North Bengal is also preparing for heavy rain. Districts like Darjeeling, North Dinajpur, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri are expected to receive a lot of rain on Sunday and Monday. Wind speeds in these areas could range from 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, making the weather even more intense.

Temperatures to Drop Further

The weather department has said that temperatures across Bengal could fall by three to five degrees in the coming days. This drop in temperature, along with the heavy rain, will bring more relief from the intense heat that people were facing earlier.

South Bengal, including Kolkata, and parts of North Bengal are under alert for rain and storms. People have already started experiencing cooler and wetter weather, and this is expected to continue for a few more days. Though the storms may cause some problems, the rain and cooler temperatures are giving much-needed comfort from the previous heat.
