Indian Railways is planning to introduce a new sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train between Delhi and Amritsar, but it won't start this year; it's expected to begin service from the 2026 winter season, announced by Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh during an event in Chandigarh,

where he talked about various railway developments planned in the region.
Delhi-Amritsar Vande Bharat Express
The new train will take passengers overnight between the National Capital Territory of Delhi and Amritsar in Punjab, linking important stops such as Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar. As it will offer sleeper service, it will let people travel comfortably at night, which is especially useful for long journeys.
Preparations for the New Service
Officials have already started preparing for this service by planning railway facilities that will support it. Land near Ladhowal, close to Ludhiana, has been identified for building a loco shed, which is required at the start and end points of the route.
How Will it Benefit Passengers?
The announcement is part of wider rail upgrades in Punjab, where projects worth thousands of crores of rupees are underway to improve tracks, bridges, and passenger stations. The government says there is enough funding for all these improvements.
This new Vande Bharat sleeper train will be one of the first of its kind on this popular northern route, helping travelers who prefer night travel and want fast, modern trains with sleeping berths. Passengers can expect it to be smoother and more comfortable than regular overnight trains, carrying forward Indian Railways' efforts to modernise long-distance travel.
